My snap beans, and tomato's are doing quite lovely, all nestled in their little boxes.
Today is much like a rain forest would be I think, the humidity quiet high, and
cloudy. Everything so lush and beautiful. We are also having lovely soft trade wind breezes.
It is a wonderful day.
Also the first full day I have been at home the whole day in 3 weeks. I have been helping
some folks out, and doing some cleaning and such.
Hopefully my next post will be a bit more interesting, and catch some of your attention.
Until then, I am off to enjoy fresh brewed coffee, and the lovely breeze.
: )

Green Winter and Sweet Dreams

On Saturday we woke to extremely cold weather! It was with full intention of fulfilling that obligation to the day. However, with overcast skies and an extremely quiet house, it was back to bed I went.
I woke about two hours later, and the day had gone on without me, and delivered, beautiful skies and absolute wonderful balmy breezes.
I made a fresh pot of dark roast coffee, and inhaled the lovely deep aroma, and the lovely fresh breeze flowing across the table.
Outside Larry had placed our swing into its lovely little cage, and the breeze moved it back and forth as if someone was sitting in it, just moving it ever so slightly.
I sipped my coffee and watched as this continued.
In my mind I could see my mom and dad sitting there, just swinging, and how wonderful they looked to be together again.
I could hear them talking, and laughing, and mom singing some silly song.
In my mind it was lovely to see that.
I am sure a projection from my heart.
I finished my coffee, and waved good day to them, as I needed to move on to
the things of the real world.
They left me with a smile and a tear.
I lifted the window over the sink, and filled the sink basin up with suds, and hot water, and gave the last night's dishes a good wash, and sang a silly song.
I greeted the day with a smile, and ran off to do the errands.
When himself came home we ate a good meal, of fried chicken, apples, and green beans, and corn bread, and made our way outside to sit in the swing, and sing.
: )
<img width='1' so in love with the quiet.
I grew up that way, where things were quiet, and now it has returned to keep me in the grandest of company.
Himself is a lover of it also.<br for a spin, and a wash.
This is supposed to be a beautiful weather week-end, so we plan on taking advantage of it.
It is shed cleaning time, and picking up dead limbs, and debris type='text'>The Sound of Silence

Its been almost 3 weeks now, since we have been able to have our entire house back.
I have written much about the quiet, and the />Yesterday evening, himself and I changed our routine, and when he arrived home after work, we ate, and drank our coffee, and took a ride.
Everything looked so dingy, the sky, the black snow, the barren trees.
We are forecasted to have more snow today, and icy mist.
More snow for the next two days, and I have to admit that some light snow dusting's will refresh the dingy look of things.
We stopped at a enormous consignment shop to look at some furniture.
Though we found nothing to our liking, it was fun, and a change of pace.
We did enjoy the outing.
Today after I tidy the house, I am going to work on one of my projects.
Now I just have to decide which one?
I look out upon the beautiful new snow falling gently and covering the dingy.
Its refreshing, as nature has such a way of re-decorating.
Shhhhh, be very very quiet...
: )
Just A Thought or Two

While pondering the things of the universe, I was interrupted, by the new personal ring tone on the new house phone, which by that it lets me know that a relative or friend is calling.
Clever this phone is.
For the past two weeks the house and me and himself have been allowing the quiet, to just flow through us.
I walk through very quietly trying not to disturb, the peace.
Our last house guest have now moved into their own nest, and finding twigs of their own, they are happy, and we are too.
Time has seemed more valuable than ever, and I try to not waste a moment of it.
Though, I have been with a bit of a cold and scratchy throat for the last week, I am on the mend I think.
Our evenings have been fixing a nice dinner, and afterwards having a cup of coffee, and watching a nightly episode of Monarch Of The Glen, such lovely friends to have for company in the evening.
Then we retire to our bedroom, and talk for awhile, and snuggle deep under the covers, as we turn the heat very low at night.
We are still with an abundance of snow drifts, and icicles.
During the day, I walk about with a heavy sweater and warm boots, and feel quiet comfy in the winter wardrobe.
I used to be impatient wanting winter to be gone, but now, I savor its beauty, and enjoy the beautiful white canvas, dotted here and there with evergreens.
In the past few weeks I have also tackled things long overdue in cleaning, and sorting.
I now have a project room.
Its a lovely place, where old photo's and old letters and cards seem to come to life when viewed or read.

A place where gift wrapping can be done with some room, and where sewing seems to be a pleasant change of place.
Where, books can be laying about, and the large picture window to dream from.
It is a nice room, and I am grateful to have it.
: )
<img width='1' height='1' picture here is of my son, named Caleb, after his Grandpa.
He distanced himself since this day of Christmas in which the photo was taken.
Became withdrawn and reclusive.
Today the prodigal son returned, and as per usual I fixed the egg sandwich that he and his grandpa loved.
We sat and chatted and to my surprise, he had been on a mind quest to look at the world, and his education, and his job, and his life.
He revealed that he was reading and concentrating on how to improve his current life style.
He has been researching cultural situations.
I remarked that he had certainly chosen a wide and deep river to swim across.
He is a big Jamie Oliver fan, and wishes to have a Mohawk, and grow things organically.
I just embraced his desires, and said nothing of how that would turn out.
I do not claim to have any psychic abilities, some things in life do not require that
particular gift.
He is a wonderful mixed bag of tricks, and has a great mind, and a very soft heart.
So to sum up this event, it was good to see him. He has been such a blessing to my life, and always promotes the good and right of things.
Never focusing on what we cannot do, but what we can do.
Never allowing the negativity of life and folks to become the dominate factor.
I so adore him.
So I am thinking that I am semi-over the hill now, instead of mid life?
Which it should all be down hill now right?
LOL
We shall see......
On my second day, the hill is looking to be a rather steep decline.
I am a mess..
Love to all<br amused the Dr, with my ability to play with words, redirect his objective, and turn it into mine.
Mine was to get a lower insurance premium, and had to appear before a dr. like a judge with a violation.
Oh Dear, the games the insurance company play!
Not to linger there.
It will turn into a rant and I will have to have get rant space on PFG's blog.
I am patiently waiting for this month to slide away uneventfully, and that with the hopes of starting some seeds in the second week of Feb.
My birthday is approaching, and I will be older again.
Not necessarily wiser, but older.
It has been 3 months now of sharing a house with son, daughter-in-law and step granddaughter, we have learned a lot from this experience.
It has shown us how to share more than we thought we have done in the past.
Our home has always been a refuge for weary life travelers.
If all goes according to plan, we will be alone in our house again.
We talk of lofty plans of doing this and that, and what we have decided is.
That we will just sit about, and wait as life reveals its mysteries to us.
I pray for all to have enough of what they need, some of what they want.
As my wonderful himself always says, "Be kind and do no Harm".
: I held the phone for about 5 minutes, then,
I watched as my fingers dialed the local Pizza Hut, to order their large speciality
pizza for 10 bucks. Its strange my fingers know the numbers!!!!!!
Its only day 7, I justified.
Its only 10 bucks, and a tip.
The world could end in a few minutes..????
Honestly I should not have ordered the chocolate dunking sticks, they are so evil.
Its too late to to un order it now.
We have been pretty hammered with snow, and more snow, and more to come.
My sister who lives in the Sunny land of Florida, is alarmed that they may actually be getting snow their way. OMG, that is like Hell freezing over..
Thus the need to console myself of all the times, I have said, "Ok when Hell freezes over I will". (In case you don't recognize this expression it is very Southern)
At the moment we are having snow whirl winds, its so neat to watch from our very warm room.
It is truly a winter wonder land out there.
Lets see, pizza on the way, hot coffee brewing, hubby on the way home, has all the makings of a good evening, just a good old movie now, and we are on the way to "Thin Man" movies
We did not watch the ball drop this year.
He was off for 10 days, and we just allowed the time to pass without taking any real note of it, just relaxing, and enjoying each others company.
We did a lot of talking of our life's journey, and what lies ahead to be done.
In between times, sorting out family matters.
Looking over type='text'>The Wonder of It All

When you look through the eyes of a child at Christmastime, you begin to see the magic all over again, the wonderment, the excitement.
As an adult you have sorted the mystery of Santa, and reindeer, and such.
A child is still sorting through all of that.
So what meaning does it hold for us now?
A winter holiday?
A festive time of year?
A decorating frenzy?
For me it holds a time of remembering, a time of reflecting on Christmas's past.
This year holds the memory.
A Thumbelina Doll.
My first motherhood experience.
For the life of me, I was completely bewildered.
I being such a young girl, being given such a floppy big baby girl.
She came complete with her thumb in her mouth and a bottle that when you put it there, the magic fluid disappeared, then refilled itself as you held it upright.
My mom explained that I was to play with this????
I could not understand that.
How did you play with that?
What did you play?
My baby sister got the same doll, different colored hair, she took to it like a duck to water.
Talking to it, wrapping it in a blanket, singing to it.
Feeding it the magic formula.
Mine lay around and stared into space blankly.
I was 11 years old, and baby sis was 4.
I conveniently lost mind in the woods, and my baby sis, may still have hers tucked away in some storage container somewhere.
I confided in my dad, that it the doll scared me, and worried me that my sister thought it was going to come to life by that magic formular.
My dad laughed for years over this.
He said I told your mom to get you a pocket knife.
: )
Fresh Fallen Snow

Last night for the first time in quite a long time,I actually got a really good restful sleep. I felt so refreshed this morning, and to wake to steaming coffee made by my hubby, and an announcement that we had snow, it was a wonderful way to greet the day.
Our last few week-ends have been given over to a mission run, and between times have been in trying to stabilize the things at home.
It has been for the last couple of months an emotional roller coaster with things.
Now, it seems to be settled down, and all is calm for the moment.
I so appreciate these calm times, a chance to rest, and reflect.
I began writing about our family history at Roanoke Island, and of course the more I wrote, the more I investigated the history of the Island. Aside from the first English colony there, there is the history of the role the Island played in the civil War.
Save all that for another time.
That involves the story of things found in the attic there.
Trying to record moments in time are often difficult as to mis-information, and I certainly had plenty of that.
Due of course to my remembrances of names and places, and guess what?
Most of them were incorrect. So I have had to go back and recapture this with the help of some wonderful folks still remaining there on the Island.
I might add that two ladies of which I have correspondence with have been absolutely wonderful in helping me put the correct names together.
I knew most of them by their nick-names, which I did have those right.
I am enjoying this writing project, looking back almost 50 years ago is to say the least very interesting, at least to me.
Well, I am off to catch up some over due laundry, and enjoy more coffee, and snow.
: )

Hangs Her Head in Shame

I have been struggling to keep my head, and thoughts above water here of late.
I am so sorry to those I may have hurt or offended by leaving them with absence of notes, or of any replies, emails, or letters.
I am truly sorry.
Please forgive this Mid Life Disaster.
:(

However I am grateful that today finds me in a more peaceful state of things, and I have decided after such a long siege of events, its time to get back on the blog wagon, and emails, and correspondence.
: )
I personally apologize to my wonderful PFG.
I am back to Mid Life Hope. : )
Love and Hugs to All
: )

LOL on Crap Blog Detective

Well, I have to admit, that was interesting!
Original to say the least.
Tagged and chewed by a crap blog detective.
LMAO.
Only problem is How did he know I was 90 years old? I passed by the lama farm, and the many ponds along the road, all filled with Geese. It was yesterday's lovely ride that brought home the childhood memories stirred by the Golden Rod, as a child, we knew it was getting close to school time when it started to blossom.
It was so wonderful to know that even though school was starting there was still time to play afterwards after chores.
I grew up much different than anyone I have ever known. I suppose it was just that time in the world. Things were changing, and most folks I knew, did not want too, and never intended too.
I was 7 years old when we moved to the Roanoke Island, The very small community was called Manteo, the adjoining community was called Wanchese, both were named after Indiana Chiefs.
7 miles away, was the bridge across the Croatan Sound that took you to the Atlantic Ocean, and just over to the left as you were exiting the bridge, you could see the huge sand dunes, where Orvile and Wilbur made their flight. (Jockey Ridge)
The huge old beach houses, it was not a very big place, not like now.
I did not get to go over to the ocean much, my mom thought it was too big. : )
I think she was afraid it would swallow me up.
Mom used to work cleaning a motel over there, and heard all kinds of horror stories.
So trips to the beach were very infrequent. I loved the ocean, and as a child, it was so strange how just a car ride away was such a different place completely.
I went back there about 20 years ago, it was the first time I had been there since a young teen, I looked at what had been done I cried.
The marshes had been filled with concrete, built high rises, built million dollar homes.
For all the wealth to capture a view, but they would never have enough money to buy the memories I had of a time long gone, when poor people lived off of the land and what it could provide, rather than a mall with expensive swim ware.
Oh the shame of it all.
Sorry for the rant here..
: )

Southern Exposure From a Northern View

I grew up on Roanoke Island, A small Island on the coast of North Carolina, just a small place, with larger than life people and history.
However not knowing any of that at the time, my days as a child were filled with the magic of pirate ships, and digging for treasure. Long days of eating strawberries, and playing soft ball in a pasture, turning the road into a hop scotch pad.
Spending hours collecting locust shells, and freaking my mom out with them.
Playing in doodle bug holes, thus my nick name.
Spending time in the Elizabethan Gardens, pretending to be a Queen, especially since my middle named was Elizabeth.
Listening to the boat builders hammer and saw, and that wonderful smell of fresh cut lumber.
Catching fish, and eating them soon there after, digging for clams, and picking up drift wood, shells, and digging for old bottles and such when the tide was out for treasures. Digging sassafras roots and chewing on them, waiting patiently for the scuppernong grapes to be ready and fighting the yellow jackets for their sweet sticky taste. I was just old enough to understand how to look out for rattlesnakes, and how to row a boat, and how to chop fire starter. I also learned not to never eat a persimmon before it was ripe. introduced to how to murder a chicken! The smell of placing said chicken with feathers still attached to it into a tub of boiling water, is still one that I have trouble forgetting.
The long summers were a school of learning in itself.
I learned some very painful lessons. Chiggers are irritating, blueberries are harvested by green snakes, and they will fight you for them.
Jelly fish are mean, and suck your blood. mosquito's love small girls with shorts, horse flies love people more than horses, old abandoned houses are dangerous, and have lots of rotten floor boards. The sun will turn you red, and give you water blisters, sometimes rowing a boat too far out, can be a major problem.
Using pine boughs to make a tent, is a good smell, but pulling ticks out is not a pleasant extraction.
Bulls in pastures are not necessarily friendly at times, and do not care to be ridden.
Horses will bite.
Ok, so now, I am going to have to take a nap, I am exhausted from reliving moments of my childhood.
: )

A Pink Fairy and A Calico Kate

Through the trials and troubles of everyday life. This being the week of the 800 miles, only today I only traveled maybe a block for my first outing.
A woman who just maybe a block away in our neighborhood, of whom I had never met.
Today, we not only met, but I helped her put her things out and about and guided her through the process of selling.
She had another friend trying to help also. We even recruited my neighbor that I did know to help. We had a wonderful time of helping and making good neighbor relations a fun and wonderful time.
It was exhausting as she had so much stuff over 6 years worth that she had been packing away to have such an event one day.
This lady, 5 year recovering stroke victim, with serious medical problems, still working her same job of 40 years.
It was the very least that we could do to help.
In the end of things we were all exhausted. Her final outcome was very good monetarily wise, but this lady was truly worn down, however she had a wonderful smile, and called me later to thank me and the other neighbor. : )
I left after about 6 hours and went to another sell, I found a lovely bench, that converts into a picnic table, I will take a picture tomorrow of it.
Some very lovely embroidered pillow cases, some lovely fenton glass.
Oh so many beautiful things being produced from garages, and sheds, and attics.
This will be my last few days of exploring, as I have so many things and projects and such to accomplish.
In this years event however, I have met some wonderful people, with lots of stories.
I am so tired this evening, and sorry for not a very exciting blog, but none the less a morsal of the day.
: )

Yard Sale Therapy

So today was the beginning of the 800 mile yard sale,It starts in Maryland Hwy US 40 The old National Hwy.
I went about 10 miles found a beautiful oil painting for $4.00.

A lovely bone china tea cup and saucer for $2.00.

A very old book, and lots of 25 cent items. Taking in the beauty of the green, the flowers the smell of newness, the lawn mowers going, and in the back of my mind, I knew there were a ton of yard sales going on.
I had made a promise to myself that I would not go out, and about to them.
So, taking a deep breath, I realized how foolish I had been in making that decision.
I gathered my things, and headed out.
I found a few sales, and bought a few things.
There was this one sale in a neighborhood that only had a few things out, and normally I would just pass it by, but decided to stop and take a look.
This lady had the most wonderful things.
There was a sign by her money box, that said, she had an Amish bed for sale, with mattress and box springs for $75.00.
So I inquired of it.
The lady took me inside of her home, and showed it to me.
I was a little taken back, as it was a grand piece of Amish work.
I asked why she was selling it, and she said that she was moving, and it was too heavy, and she did not want to be burdened with so many things.
I told her, I liked it, and she told me that I could have it all for $50.00.
I told her, that I would be back for it in an hour.
Now, keep in mind, that I have not had a bed frame for about 20 years.
We have always had our bed on a metal support.
Oh I have looked at bed frames for a long time, but find most of them to be shabby, and ornamental, and cannot afford the really nice well made ones.
So, breaking a promise to myself, I was so very fortunate to acquire a very nice solid oak handmade bed.~~~~~~~

I am so happy, and it is such a wonderful piece to have.
I now feel like a grown up. Put on some music, and tidy up and wait for my hubby to come in, and go out for fish and chips at the Claddaugh.(The Plan)..
My daughter comes home in frantic mode, needing to take care of some business, she is exhausted, in need of sleep, she had gotten off of a 12 hours shift.
So, she explains why I need to go with her to do this, it is evident that she needs me to keep her alert if she is going to be driving to downtown Indy.
So, I call and reschedule the house cleaning for today..(YEAH).
So off we go, she is in no shape for conversing, and I am only along for the ride.
Driving downtown Indy is not as easy as one may think. It is down right scary.
Her business is at the courthouse, and I stay in the car, and she has to walk a very good distance. I found a Nora Roberts book, so I was occupied, and I was pretty much half-way through the book when she returned, she had been very insulted by an office worker, of which she pointed out to him that he owned a red line swing stapler.
On the way back, she decided in her exhausted state that we needed to go and eat, and that she would be able to eat horse hair at that point. So next stop Cracker Barell. We both ordered Chicken and dumplings, she had about 3 spoonfuls and was full. I had just started eating good when she made the announcement about being full already. So, we got to go boxes, and then she decided we needed to get our eyebrows threaded. Now, I am still hungry, thinking about those lovely dumplings getting cold.
While I am sitting in a chair with this lady and her dental floss pulling my eyebrows into shape. Finally, its 1pm, and I am going to be able to get home heat up the dumplings, and put some cooling gel on my aching arches. So, to my surprise the younger son, has moved home while I was away in Indy. He had unplugged my computer, put his in, and had a basket of dirty laundry waiting for me.
He was also hungry, so I offered him my earlier meal, and he thanked me, and said, oh by the way Happy Birthday.
I smiled...
Yes you guessed it, now my organized everything room is now occupied by himself.
So, he had a package that he opened, which from the outside looked like a doll box.
I thought oh, he bought me a doll. He said, yeah, I bought this off of eBay for $2.00, I said oh yeah, what is it?
He was tearing away at the package, which indicated it was not a doll, and not a gift for me. He said its a crow bar.....
Why I asked?
Darn he said as he looked at the small tool, its too short.
Ok, so I ask again Why?
For Zombies, the only way you can really kill them is with a crowbar.......
Ok.. I said.
Love you mom, got to go to work...
I stand there, and think what in the world is going on with my grown children?
Its too painful, and too funny to continue, but, here I am, with my last nerve gone, and a crowbar for I assume Pygmy zombies, and in case they attack, I am fully prepared.
Hubby comes home takes one look at his frazzled, puzzled wife, and with no music, he swoops me into his arms and takes me on a slow loving dance in the Once everything room.
It was a good day. We ordered Pizza.....
:)

Day 19 of the New Year

Wow, how time flies.
I have been a bit out of sorts for the past couple of weeks.
Ok, so I have been out of sorts most of my life...
LOL..
It seems like I am always playing catch up with myself.
Just as soon as I get things where I think I want them, I change my mind, and either try another thing, or arrangement.
I am a Mess!
However, I am pleased to announce that I have managed to get some things accomplished with the one room that has been an everything room, to now a defined everything room.
I will digress to speak of its history since our move in 5 years ago.
It was the garage of this ranch house, and converted into a study, or bonus room before we moved here.
Its really a neat place, but with the way it was remodeled it lacked a feeling of exactly what it should be.
Thus it became the everything room.
Now it is home to my computer, a single bed for company, a lounging chair, craft supplies, mostly for scrap booking and other odd and ends, everything was just kind of jumbled, and over the week-end Hubby and I were able to give it some personality.
Yeah!
I will take a picture sometime today.
It is now quite enjoyable to be in, and feels more like part of the house now.
We are looking forward to Spring. I have so many plans for our flower box garden!
I am the most excited of making our shed into a lovely cottage.
I am a big fan of square foot gardening! (A game plan).
We have a fence that needs to be replaced, garden boxes to be built, We have plans for the shed cottage.
Then there is all of the other things that need attention before this can happen.
The list... Oh the dreaded list of things that have to be done before we can start.
Checking it to make sure we are on plan.
Larry makes fun of my lists...They are all over the place like some kind of clue to some hidden treasure.
I have these potato's that are very seeded. I asked him if he thought it was too early to plant them. He laughed, and said, yeah I think so.
I think that with the way the weather has been that I will plant them with a cover.
LOL, I suppose that needs some explanation..
A very long time ago, I planted potato's in old tires.
Its a unique way of growing them, but works very well for small places where you cannot grow things conventionally. I have not done this since I have been in Indy.
Its more of a Southern thing.
So, being the delightfully optimist that I am...LOL
I am going to do that this week.
So, if it fails, I am sure I will have more seeded potato's before the natural planting time occurs.
Taking square foot gardening to a whole new level... that would be me!!
Some things never change.......I AM A MESS !!!
:)

The Look of A New Year

So far things are shaping up for a good year.
I truly plan to take each day at a time, and deal with it.
Not looking so far ahead, or looking so far back.
Trying to realize where I am at this time of my life.
Hey can you tell my hair is finally trying to grow again!!!
I think I just might be growing up some...
Big girl pills and all that.
Today was a quiet day here at home.
